Frequently Asked Questions
What is NBR? NBR (National Building Register) is a secure digital platform that helps dutyholders manage building safety information, evidence compliance, and stay inspection-ready under the Building Safety Act.
Who is NBR designed for? NBR is built for organisations with building safety responsibilities, including Principle Contractors, Principle Accountable Persons, Accountable Persons, Managing Agents, Facilities Management Teams, Building Owners, and Developers.
What does “Golden Thread” mean in NBR? We use the term Golden Thread to describe all safety-critical and operational building information, not just records for higher-risk buildings, structured, traceable, and kept up to date.
Does NBR help with Building Safety Act compliance? Yes. NBR is designed around the requirements of the Building Safety Act and supports clear accountability, audit trails, and regulator-ready information management. It does not replace legal advice.
Is NBR software only, or do you provide support? NBR is a SaaS platform supported by a white-glove onboarding and support service. We help ensure your data is structured correctly from the outset.
Is there a cost for onboarding? Yes. Onboarding is a one-off, chargeable service covering platform setup, data and document structuring, user configuration, and guided support. Costs depend on portfolio size and complexity and are agreed in advance.
How is NBR priced? NBR is an annual subscription, with pricing based primarily on building size (square footage), portfolio complexity, and number of users.
Can multiple users access the same building? Yes. Multiple users can be granted role-based access. Additional users can be added as required.
Is our data secure? Yes. NBR is designed to protect sensitive building and compliance information using secure infrastructure, controlled access, backups, and resilience measures aligned with industry best practice.
Can NBR store O&M manuals and compliance documents? Yes. NBR securely stores, structures, and makes accessible O&M manuals, compliance documents, and safety-critical records. NBR does not author documents as standard and does not replace the Principal Contractor’s responsibility for O&M or H&S file collation. However, as part of onboarding, we can support the structured compilation and organisation of documentation where required. Additional document support services are available separately if needed.
How long does onboarding take? Timelines vary depending on the volume and quality of documentation and building complexity. A clear onboarding plan and milestones are agreed before starting.
What happens if we decide to leave NBR? You can request an export of your documents in line with the offboarding process. After the agreed exit period, documents are removed from NBR systems in accordance with data retention policies.
